International Council

..:: Global Trust Center International Council

The GTC International Council represents an upgrading of the international steering group that oversaw work on the feasibility study preceding the establishment of the GTC as a separate organization in 2006. The Council has one member from each country represented. Individual members are proposed based on extensive consultations with key country institutions and accepted by the Council in accordance with its Constitution, adopted by the Council in 2008. That year, the International Council further ratified the Global Trust Center Policy on Enabling Trust in the Digital World.

While speaking in a personal capacity, it is the responsibility of members to base considerations on the good of the individual user and of society in the context of the long-term development of the information society. Council decisions are not legally binding but reflect the collective judgment of this eminent group of representatives.

The economic and social importance that the GTC Global Policy may attain is tremendous and it is thus essential to preserve the integrity and the independence of the International Council and its work, and to ensure that the organization evolves in accordance with its constitution without the infringement of vested interests. Unfortunately, there have been attempts from competing organisations to gain control of the International Council. However, the integrity of the International Council of the Global Trust Center is firmly intact and the body will keep guarding the policy as a basis for a healthy market development, in accordance with the fundamental principles of the organization.
